The 2nd EUROPLAN National Conference took place on 19 – 21 October 2017 in Vienna within the 8th Congress on Rare Diseases. Pro Rare Austria, Rare Diseases Austria was the organiser.
As the Congress tackled the issue of healthcare pathways, the EUROPLAN workshop specifically addressed the issue of social care and social services for people living with a rare disease.
The current national social services and hotline “1450” were presented as well as pilot initiatives with “case managers” through the EU project INNOVCare. The presentations were followed, the next day, by discussions with the patients’ representatives and other stakeholders on the current situation in Austria with regard to the following issues:
- Psycho-social health
- Challenges of everyday life (access to education, workplace, household etc…)
- Financial security and administrative errands
The 2017 Austrian EUROPLAN conference “underscored that medical and social care for patients suffering from rare diseases are intrinsically connected.”
